Graf Tree Care launched it's new lawn care division at the beginning of the 2009 season. Paul Deckman, a veteran lawn care expert and PHC operator, was appointed to head up this new division. After years of explaining to our customers about how some accepted lawn care practices are not always the best for our trees, we decided to do it ourselves.

One example of this is the repeated use of broad leaf herbicides for weed control. Not good. After all what is a tree? It is a big broad leaf plant. One application may not harm the efficiency of a tree's root system, however, some lawn care services will apply a broadcast herbicide four or more times in the course of the season for weed control. Although using herbicide in weed control is necessary, if done correctly broadleaf herbicides need only to be applied as a "spot" treatment.

There are other great examples when it comes to proper fertilizers. We also use some of the greatest fertilizers available in the market place today. These are fertilizers that enhance the root systems of our trees as well.  

We used to say that as arborists, we are going to favor tree over turf every time. We took the position that grass is easy - after all you can grow grass in three weeks, and have a lush lawn in one season. You can't do that with a tree. Now we realize that lawns do have their place and our customers love them too, so we have decided to custom craft ways to have them co-exist happily.
